Interactions between phage and bacteria: the ncRNA angle

Bacteria protect themselves from viral infection through a suite of defense mechanisms that are collectively called the "immune system" of bacteria. Much research focused on CRISPR-Cas, in wihch ncRNAs are central for the defensive mechanism, but in the past few years numerous new defense systems have been discovered. The talk will present progress in our understanding of new mechanisms of bacterial defense, focusing on new systems that utilize non coding RNAs for protection against phages.
